We are pleased to advise patients that we now have First Contact Physiotherapists (FCP) working as part of our practice team. A First Contact Physiotherapist is an experienced physiotherapist who specialises in assessing and managing muscle, joint and bone problems. This means that, for many conditions, you can be offered an appointment directly with the physiotherapist without needing to see a GP first.
The service may be suitable if you have problems such as:
- Back or neck pain
- Shoulder, elbow, wrist or hand problems
- Hip, knee, ankle or foot pain
- Sprains, strains or sports injuries
- Sciatica or pain referred into an arm or leg
- Arthritis or other musculoskeletal problems
The physiotherapist can assess your condition, provide advice and exercises, arrange appropriate investigations or referrals where required, and prescribe medication if qualified to do so.
How do I get an appointment?
When you contact the practice, our reception/care navigation team may ask you a few questions about your symptoms. This helps us direct you to the most appropriate healthcare professional. If your problem is suitable for the First Contact Physiotherapy service, you may be offered an appointment directly with our FCP rather than a GP.
The service is not suitable for every condition, including children under 16, pregnancy or gynaecological-related symptoms, or patients who are acutely unwell. Our team will help direct you to the appropriate service.
Think: if you are hurt, see the Physiotherapist; if you are sick, see the Doctor.
